Note:

I will not curve each individual test. I will create a curve at the end of the course, once all the grades are recorded.

Curve:
90-100 = A -- this range is not curved
80% of the top grade = B
70% of the top grade = C
51 to the bottom of the C range= D
50 points or less = F -- this range is not curved

Example: The top grade in the class is 95. The only people who get As are those who score 90-95. But 80% of 95 is 76, so 76-89 is the B range. The top 5 grades in the range--85 through 89--are B+. The C range would be 66-75, because 70% of 95 is about 66.

There are 3 quizzes. They add up to 100% of your grade.

Quiz 1: 30 questions, worth 30% of grade
Quiz 2: 40 questions, worth 40% of grade
Quiz 3: 30 questions, worth 30% of grade

Please note the following rules about grading.

There is no extra credit after the class. When the class is over, we're done.

You must complete every part of the class to pass the class. That is, you must receive a grade for each quiz or I will fail you for the entire class. Put differently, no piece of the class is optional.

Here's a sad example: Ms. Jones makes perfect scores on the first two exams. But she decided not to take the last quiz. Ms. Jones figures that with 70 points--the maximum one can earn from all the tests--she will probably earn a C in the class.

In fact, Ms. Jones will fail the class. Just think how sad she will be at the end of the semester. Everyone will be happy to be going home, or to Cancun, or some place, but Ms. Jones will know that an F will appear on her permanent transcript.
